Work package description

The scope of this work package is to undertake research and apply studies on the new developments on luminescence dating techniques (optically stimulated luminescence, OSL and “recuperated” OSL) on selected Eastern Mediterranean sites with evident cultural and/or paleoanthropological interest, combined with paleoenvironmental reconstruction of the corresponding ancient landscapes.

According to recently published relative studies, the new interdisciplinary studies require better understanding of the interacting dipoles Man-Environment in ancient habitation sites, Sea-Land in paleo-coastal zones and the diachronic ancient landscape evolution in tectonic unstable areas as it is the case in a large number of maritime Eastern Mediterranean sites. Two areas marked with clear Man-Environment interaction namely at Navarino-Romanas (SW Peloponnesus) and Aghia Nappa in SE Cyprus, have been selected for dating and paleoenvironmental studies.
